Brazil

On 9 December 2024, the Civil Defense of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, provided information on the heavy rains that affected 25 municipalities of the state. According to the information, 1,300 people were affected by flooding, landslides, and collapsed dams. In the municipality of Lages, 50 homes were affected. Haiti (Update)

On 8 December, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), provided updated information on the severe weather in the country. According to the information, between 30 November and 4 December 2024, the flooding in the department of Grand'Anse, affected 2,394 families. Additionally, four deaths were reported, 2,051 homes were flooded, and 14 homes were destroyed. The report is available from: OCHA

 

Honduras

On 7 December 2024, the Risk and Contingency Management Secretariat of Honduras (COPECO per its acronym in Spanish) declared yellow alert for the department of Cólon due to the heavy rains. Wildfires

On 10 December 2024, the Government of the County of Los Angeles activated the incident response due to the Franklin Fire. According to the Fire Department of Los Angeles County, 2,200 acres were burned. Media is reporting that the government has issued evacuation orders for 2,000 homes and a warning for evacuation for more than 6,000 homes. The University of Pepperdine has suspended the classes.
