Brazil

On 9 July 2023, the Civil protection of the state of Alagoas, Brazil, declared State of Emergency in 31 municipalities due to the heavy rains. To date, there were 22,030 people displaced nationwide, with the municipality of Matriz Camaragibe accounting for the highest number of displaced people persons (n=3,548). There are 15 municipalities reporting disrupted water supplies, in three of the municipalities—Jacuípe, Joaquim Gomes and Murici—power problems are contributing to the problem and the other 12 municipalities—Matriz de Camaragibe, Passo de Camaragibe, Maceió, Satuba, Rio Largo, Pilar, Messias, Murici, Capela, Maribondo, Novo Lino and Colônia Leopoldina—the increase in river levels affected the water supply. Elsewhere, the Brazil Agency of Communication (EBC per its acronym in Portuguese), reported the Government of the State of Pernambuco has declared an emergency in 15 municipalities due to the heavy rains. United States of America

On 10 July 2023, the New York State government, United States of America, declared a State of Emergency in Orange and Ontario counties due to the heavy rains. The State Emergency Operations Center and State Fire Operations Center were activated on 9 July 2023. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control and State Parks team conducted door to door checks at 120 homes in Ontario County, which resulted in the voluntary evacuation of more than a dozen individuals and five pets. Road closures were reported in the state and two shelters were opened in Ontario County and Orange County. The report is available from: Government of New York State
