Colombia (Update)
On 11 August 2026 the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) provided updated information on the earthquake that affected Colombia on 10 August. According to the report, 254 deaths, 724 injuries, and 129 missing persons have been reported, while 4,211 structures have sustained damage. Media reports indicate that several Indigenous communities in the forested Pacific region of Chocó, near the earthquake’s epicenter, remain without electricity and access to basic services, further complicating ongoing search and rescue operations. On 11 August 2026, media reported updated information regarding wildfires affecting the Okanagan region of British Columbia. According to the report, the Bald Range wildfire, near the community of Summerland, has burned approximately 156 km² and remains out of control, driven by prolonged drought, high temperatures, and strong winds. One death has been reported. More than 21,400 people are under evacuation orders across the province, including over 12,000 in Summerland, while approximately 9,700–11,000 additional people are under evacuation alerts. Severe air quality warnings are in effect across southern British Columbia, and homes and other structures near Okanagan Lake have been destroyed. No damage to health facilities has been reported to date. Approximately 100 firefighters from Mexico have arrived to support firefighting operations, and the Canadian Armed Forces are on standby. Additional wildfires remain active in Quebec, the Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and northern Ontario, where evacuation orders are also affecting several communities.
