Brazil (Update)

On 12 January 2023, the Civil Defense of the state of Minas Gerais of Brazil, provided an update regarding the heavy rains occurring there. Between 21 September 2022 and 12 January 2023, throughout the state of Minas Gerais, there were 21 deaths reported (7 increase since the 6 January 2023 report), 12,948 people were evacuated (3,723 increase since the prior report), and 216 municipalities declared an emergency (90 increase since the prior report). The report is available at: Defesa Civil de Minas Gerais

United States of America (Update)     

On 12 January 2023, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provided an update regarding the flooding in California. A total of 18 deaths have been reported (3 additional deaths since the last report). Additional mandatory evacuations were issued in Merced and Mono and remain in effect in San Benito, Ventura, Santa Cruz and Monterey. Currently a total of 46 roads were closed in the impacted area and 429 schools are affected. To date, 29 shelters housing a total of 717 people are active (one additional shelter and 36 additional people since the last report).
