Guatemala (Update) 

On 15 August, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED), provided an update about the effects of the heavy rain season in the country. To date 1,229 incidents related to heavy rains have been reported. Between April to August 2022, 2,046,534 people were affected by the rainy season and 28 deaths were reported. There are 1,895 people who have been placed in shelters as they have lost their homes. In total, 1,179 houses were lightly damaged, 4,467 houses were moderately damaged, and 326 houses were severely damaged. In addition, 68 bridges and 353 roads were affected, and 18 bridges were destroyed. The report is available at: CONRED.  

 

Venezuela 

On 14 August, the Mayor of the municipality of San Carlos, Alexander Mireles, reported that due to flooding caused by heavy rains 200 families were affected in the Mapuey community and 36 houses were destroyed in El Cacao. According to a media report, the day of the flood, the government of the municipality set up a temporary shelter for the more than 95 victims, because the rain continued throughout the day.
