On 16 April 2026, media reports indicated multiple forest fires affecting Pinar del Río Province, Cuba. According to the information available, six wildfires remain active amid severe drought conditions and maximum fire risk levels. The largest fire, located in Minas de Matahambre, has burned more than 612 hectares and remains uncontrolled despite ongoing response efforts. Additional fires of varying magnitude have also been reported across the province, with only one currently under control. Since the start of 2026, a total of 46 forest fires have affected more than 950 hectares in Pinar del Río, most of which are attributed to human causes. The report is available from: Granma.cu
