Brazil

On 15 January 2024, the Brazil Agency of Communication (EBC per its acronym in Portuguese), provided information on the heavy rains registered in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Government issued a declaration of emergency in the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Belford Roxo, Nova Iguaçu, and São João do Meriti. A total of 12 deaths were reported and 600 people were displaced. The report is available at: EBC

Colombia

On 15 January 2024, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management of Colombia (UNGRD per its acronym in Spanish) provided information regarding a landslide caused by heavy rains. The landslide occurred in the road Quibdó-Medellín, and 38 deaths were reported. The Government declared state of public calamity in the department of Chocó.
