Colombia

On 16 January 2023, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD per its acronym in Spanish) provided information regarding heavy rains in the country. In the municipality of Gachancipá, Cundinamarca department, the severe weather affected 60 families and damaged 40 houses. In the municipality of Quebradanegra, Cundinamarca department, a landslide affected 6 roads. Other municipalities reporting damages are Mistrató, Risaralda department (18 people evacuated and 8 homes destroyed), Medellín, Antioquia department (25 people evacuated and 5 homes damaged due to river flooding), El Bagre, Antioquia department (36 families affected and 35 homes flooded), and Quibdó, Colidiu department (15 families affected and 65 people evacuated due to a windstorm). United States of America (Updates)     

On 16 January 2023, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provided an update regarding two severe weather events. Regarding the ongoing flooding in California, FEMA reports a total of 20 deaths (2 additional deaths since the last report). Mandatory evacuations are in effect for 38 counties, affecting 4,000 people. Currently a total of 7 health care facilities are affected. To date, 28 shelters housing a total of 890 people are active (decrease of 1 shelter and 173 additional people since the last report). In addition, an update on the situation related to severe weather that affected Alabama and Georgia on 12 January 2023 is provided by FEMA. In Alabama, 144 structures were destroyed and 1 shelter has been opened housing 26 people; 7 deaths have been reported. In Georgia, 3 shelters were opened housing 82 people and at least 3 deaths have been reported. The report is available at: FEMA

Earthquake

El Salvador

On 15 January 2023, the Civil Protection of El Salvador declared a red alert due to the earthquakes that occurred. The National Seismic of El Salvador reported the occurrence of 60 earthquakes, the highest had a magnitude of 5.1 and affected the Ahuachapán e San Lorenzo in En Salvador. To date, 248 homes were affected, 142 of these were destroyed. The earthquake has caused 20 landslides. As of 17 January 2023, tents have been set up for shelter and 9 refugee families comprised of 28 persons are being sheltered.
