On 16 September 2026, the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) reported that heavy rainfall in northern Honduras caused flooding in the community of El Naranjo, Santa Cruz de Yojoa Municipality, Cortés Department. The overflow of a secondary river flooded homes and surrounding areas, with water levels reaching approximately one metre in some locations. Preliminary assessments indicated that between 40 and 50 families were affected; however, this figure may change as damage assessments continue. COPECO and other institutions continue to monitor at-risk areas and assess impacts on homes and infrastructure, as well as the immediate needs of the affected population.
