On 17 September 2026, the Cali Risk Management Secretariat reported a vegetation fire in the Alto Menga sector, northern Cali, Valle del Cauca Department, which spread rapidly due to strong winds. More than 140 firefighters, supported by 21 emergency vehicles and personnel from the Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, and Red Cross, were deployed to respond to the fire. Five houses were affected, one older adult was affected, and two firefighters sustained injuries. More than 70 hectares of vegetation were burned in the Menga and Golondrinas areas, and several educational institutions were evacuated due to smoke. Additional wildfires were reported in Cundinamarca on the same day. At the national level, seven wildfires remained active across two departments, including six in Tolima, while eight fires had been controlled. The reports are available from: El Tiempo and Semana.
