Flood

Paraguay / Argentina
On 18 October 2026, media reports indicated that Paraguayan authorities maintained a red alert in Ciudad del Este following a significant rise in the Paraná River, resulting in the evacuation of more than 1,200 people. Flooding affected the Triple Frontier region shared by Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, with water levels reportedly reaching 15 meters in some areas. One death was reported in Ciudad del Este, and hundreds of families were displaced. In Argentina, more than 400 people were evacuated or self-evacuated in Corrientes Province, while the Uruguay River exceeded evacuation thresholds in Paso de los Libres. In Santa Fe, authorities conducted search operations for three men reported missing after falling from a boat into the river. In Misiones Province, rising water levels in the Paraná River resulted in additional evacuations and the closure of some border crossings. Other impacts included flooding of homes and roads, restrictions on river navigation and tourism activities, and the opening of the Yacyretá Dam spillway to regulate water flow. Additional storms were forecast across the already saturated river basin, raising concerns about further flooding. Information available from: TN; Filo.News.
