Brazil (Update)

On 1 February 2024, the Civil Protection of the state of Bahia (SUDEC per its acronym in Portuguese), provided an update regarding the heavy rains that affected the state. According to the information, a total of 7,336 people were displaced (140 increase since the 29 January report), 5 deaths were reported (1 increase) and 87,000 people were affected. Additionally,  32 municipalities were affected; and in the municipality of Feira do Santana, 1,300 people were displaced. Peru

On 2 February 2024, the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish) provided information on the heavy rains in the departments of Huancavelica and Ica, Peru. In the district of Caja, in the department of Huancavelica, the heavy rains occurred on 4 January, affecting 340 people, 139 homes, and destroying an additional 23 homes. In the district of San Pedro de Huacarpana, in the department of Ica, on 9 January 2024, the heavy rains affected 626 people, 240 homes, and 1 health care facility.
