On 19 February 2024, the Ministry of Civil Protection of Bolivia (MINDEF per its acronym in Spanish) issued a red alert for severe rains in the multiple municipalities, three in the department of La Paz, six in the tropics of Cochabamba, as well as for parts of the Santa Cruz valley area. As of 19 February, 63 municipalities across 8 departments have been affected by the severe rains, with 11,509 families affected, 171 homes affected, 33 deaths, and 446 homes destroyed.
