On 21 September 2026, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) reported that a wildfire, active since 19 September in Villa de Leyva, Boyacá Department, had affected approximately 290 hectares. More than 300 emergency personnel and four helicopters were deployed to contain the fire, which prompted preventive evacuations and the declaration of a public calamity. Media reported that 19 tourists were evacuated from a hotel and 37 people received medical attention, primarily emergency personnel involved in firefighting operations. Ecuador
On 21 September 2026, media reported 12 active wildfires across nine provinces of Ecuador, while eight additional fires had been controlled. Among the most significant events, the wildfire affecting Casitagua hill in Quito had burned approximately 300 hectares of vegetation and remained active for a fifth consecutive day. Between 1 July and 21 September, 217 wildfires affected approximately 1,648 hectares in Quito, according to data from the Quito Fire Department.
