Severe Weather  

Guatemala (Update)  

On 26 August, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED, per its acronym in Spanish) reported 17 severe weather incidents in the departments of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, San Marcos, Retalhuleu, Alta Verapaz, Escuintla, and Quetzaltenango and affected 10,754 people. Of the total affected people, 122 were evacuated from their homes and 20 were placed in shelters. According to the Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (EDAN, per its acronym in Spanish) 278 homes sustained mild, moderate, and severe damage. The full report is available at: CONRED.  

 

Wildfire  

United States of America (Update)  

On 26 August, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided an update on several fires currently occurring across the West Coast of the country. In El Dorado, California the Caldor fire has burned 126,566 acres and is 12% contained; there are currently 33,056 residents under mandatory evacuation orders and 5 evacuation centers have been established in the surrounding areas. In total, 16,911 homes are threatened, 23 have sustained damages, and 465 homes have been destroyed. In addition, 2 injuries have been reported. In Plumas, California, the Dixie fire has burned 742,724 acres and is 45% contained. In total 2,732 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, 11,782 homes are threatened, 56 have been damaged, and 698 have been destroyed. There have been 6 injuries reported. In Trinity, California, the Monument fire has burned 154,244 acres and is 20% contained. In total 2,000 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders, 7,100 homes are threatened, 3 have been damaged, and 20 have been destroyed. In total 4 people have sustained injuries.
