On 29 September 2026, media reports and Mexican civil protection authorities reported impacts associated with Hurricane Polo in Baja California Sur and Sonora. On 28 September, Polo made landfall in Baja California Sur as a Category 3 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h (115 mph), producing heavy rainfall, storm surge, coastal flooding, and road flooding. Hundreds of residents were evacuated, including in Puerto San Carlos. On the morning of 29 September, Polo crossed the Gulf of California and made a second landfall near Guaymas, Sonora, as a Category 1 hurricane, causing flooding in parts of the city. Non-essential activities were suspended in the state capital and more than a dozen municipalities, and three Mexican Navy vessels were deployed to support isolated coastal communities. Approximately 700 people remained in temporary shelters. Preliminary assessments in Baja California Sur indicated no deaths, with minor structural damage and road flooding reported.
