On 7 August 2026, a media report informed that the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul provided information on a severe storm system affecting a significant portion of the state. According to the report, the formation of a rapidly intensifying extratropical cyclone, classified as a "bomb cyclone," combined with a cold front, resulted in the displacement of approximately 1,802 people and caused damage across 105 municipalities. The report also indicated that five people were injured and one person died as a result of the storms, including a fatality caused by a falling tree in the municipality of Montenegro. Additional impacts included a tornado in the rural locality of Matarazzo, in the municipality of Pedro Osório, which partially removed the roofs of several structures. On 6 August 2026, a media report informed that the Civil Defense Sub-Management of the Regional Government of Junín provided information on a magnitude 5.0 earthquake affecting the provinces of Chupaca and Huancayo. According to the report, the earthquake injured 15 people and rendered more than 100 dwellings uninhabitable across several districts. The report indicated that the earthquake occurred on 6 August at 13:57 hours, with its epicenter located 19 kilometers southwest of the city of Chupaca at a depth of 9 kilometers, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP). Additional impacts included strong shaking across several localities in the Mantaro Valley, while damage assessments remain ongoing to determine the full extent of the impacts.
