On 9 March 2023, the Peru Civil Protection (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish), published information on heavy rains affecting the departments of Piura and Lambayeque. Between 1 January and 9 March 2023, there were 1,874 people affected and 3 deaths reported in the department of Piura. The heavy rains affected 640 homes and 107 homes were destroyed, while 2,600 meters of roads were affected, and 1,600 meters were destroyed in Piura. In the district of Pacora in the department of Lambayeque, heavy rains on 7 March caused flooding of the La Leche river, affecting 29 homes, 110 people, and 1 school.
