The Burden of Mental Disorders in the Region of the Americas, 2018 aims to improve the assessment of mental health needs in the Region of the Americas by presenting an updated and nuanced overview of:

1. Disability due to mental disorders, substance use disorders, and specific neurological disorders, plus self-harm (SMN), both alone and in combination with premature mortality;
2. The imbalance between mental health spending and the related burden of disease, and
3. The inadequate allocation of meager mental health expenditures by countries in the Region.
