The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in collaboration with the Government of Canada, is pleased to present a new free online course available on PAHO's Virtual Campus for Public Health. This course, developed by PAHO experts, is aimed at health professionals who wish to strengthen their knowledge in immunization.

e-Learning course: Electronic Immunization Registry: Practical Considerations for Planning, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation

  • Health authorities involved in immunization management and decision making.
  • Specialists in the analysis and monitoring of vaccination coverage.
  • Public health stakeholders working with information systems to improve population health.

Participants should have a minimum background in areas such as public health, information systems, health administration, immunization or related fields.


Objectives

Describe the key components of health information systems, highlighting the role of electronic Immunization Registries in immunization management and decision making.
Identify the requirements necessary to ensure an enabling environment through the integration of legal, regulatory frameworks, as well as political, socio-cultural, institutional and economic factors that support the implementation and operation of electronic nominal vaccination registries.
Identify the stages, processes and resources needed to develop and implement an EIR, considering key actors, costs and transition strategies from non-individualized registries.
Define the key aspects for choosing the appropriate technology in an EIR, addressing acquisition models and essential variables for its efficient operation.
Analyze the importance of the quality of the data in the EIRs, as well as the monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to strengthen their reliability for decision making.
To understand the ethical principles in the collection, use and conservation of individualized data in the EIRs, guaranteeing its adequate management and protection.
