On Wednesday, 29 May, 2019, as part of the activities World No Tobacco Day, PAHO is organizing the webinar Tobacco Cessation and Patients with Tuberculosis. This webinar will present some of the available tools for tuberculosis patients to quit smoking.
There are immediate and long-term health benefits of quitting for all smokers. Although most tobacco users are dependent on nicotine, and it is difficult for them to quit on their own. Help is available. Persons with TB that quit smoke will highly benefit. Smoking substantially increase the risk of TB and death form TB. TB care providers can and should deliver brief tobacco interventions as part of their routine practice in primary care.
