Every November 6, PAHO celebrates Malaria Day in the Americas in the Region, where it calls on endemic countries, local leaders and partners in the fight against malaria to join efforts in a active and social participation of the community collaborators as main promoters of malaria elimination in the region and to accelerate the elimination of P. falciparum.
Its a call for action to make malaria treatment readily accessible to communities as a public good—free from geographic, financial, and other barriers. Engaging communities and all relevant stakeholders in a coordinated, ministry-led national alliance is essential. This effort should begin with ensuring that diagnosis and treatment services are available in all health facilities across endemic areas.
