One of the core functions of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) from its inception has been to collect, analyze, and distribute information relating to the protection and improvement of public health in Member States in the Americas. In alignment with this core function, the Pan American Sanitary Bureau (PASB) seeks to provide technical support and leadership to PAHO Member States on data, information, knowledge management and use related to the “prevention of diseases; the preservation, promotion, and restoration of physical and mental health; and the advancement of measures and sociomedical facilities for the prevention and treatment of physical and mental diseases”. Since 1954, Member States have formally agreed to compile, analyze, and share technical data from all countries and territories of the Americas.
