National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) provided an update to its Red 2 (Phase3) declaration 24 hours ago: the Prime Minister has directed the Attorney General to enact a State of Emergency (SOE) for the Belize and Stann Creek districts, beginning at 3:00 PM. Persons in the affected districts will have to stay indoors.

Hurricane Lisa was located near 17.3°N latitude, 87.7°W longitude or about 35 miles East of Belize City, over the offshore Turneffe atoll. The Category 1 Hurricane has continued in a westerly direction at 14 mph and has strengthened to maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and minimum pressure of 987 mb.

Projected landfall is expected to be the Southern Lagoon, with direct impact on the Gales Point Manatee Village, about midway between Belize City (Belize District) and Dangriga (Stann Creek District).

The Government of Belize activated its command center in the Cabinet Room with NEMO and all government emergency agencies and relevant departments.
