  • National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) provided an update to its Red 2 (Phase3) declaration 24 hours ago: the Prime Minister has directed the Attorney General to enact a State of Emergency (SOE) for the Belize and Stann Creek districts, beginning at 3:00 PM. Persons in the affected districts will have to stay indoors.

  • Hurricane Lisa was located near 17.3°N latitude, 87.7°W longitude or about 35 miles East of Belize City, over the offshore Turneffe atoll. The Category 1 Hurricane has continued in a westerly direction at 14 mph and has strengthened to maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and minimum pressure of 987 mb.

  • Projected landfall is expected to be the Southern Lagoon, with direct impact on the Gales Point Manatee Village, about midway between Belize City (Belize District) and Dangriga (Stann Creek District).

  • The Government of Belize activated its command center in the Cabinet Room with NEMO and all government emergency agencies and relevant departments.

  • 132 shelters have been opened countrywide
