The Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (PANAFTOSA), established in 1951, coordinates the Veterinary Public Health Program (VPH) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). It provides technical cooperation to countries in the Region of the Americas in the prevention, surveillance, control, and elimination of emerging and neglected zoonoses, as well as accidents caused by venomous animals; strengthening food safety systems; prevention and surveillance of foodborne diseases and antimicrobial resistance; prevention and eradication of foot- and-mouth disease; and preparedness for health emergencies. PANAFTOSA/VPH’s technical cooperation unit aims to promote public and animal health, contributing to the well-being and socioeconomic development of the peoples of the Americas. |
