Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 20 (29 May 2026)

Regional Situation: In epidemiological week 20, influenza activity shows divergent trends across subregions: a sustained decline in North America (5%) and the Caribbean (2.2%), moderate and stable levels in the Andean Region (7.2%) and Central America (10%), while Brazil and the Southern Cone recorded a sustained increase, reaching 10.8%, mainly associated with influenza A, with Argentina (27%), Panama (26.6%, Central America) and Paraguay (17.7%) among the highest values. RSV activity is moderate and increasing in the Andean Region (13.9%, with Peru at 18%) and in Brazil and the Southern Cone (9.4%, with Brazil at 12.6%), as well as in Central America (Panama, 15%). SARS-CoV-2 continues to decline in the Andean Region and remains at low levels in the other subregions, with a slight increase in the Caribbean. Syndromic surveillance reports increases in ILI and SARI cases mainly associated with influenza and RSV in Brazil, the Southern Cone, and the Andean Region, with a sustained reduction in cases in North America.
