Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 24 (20 June 2025)

Cover

Regional Situation: Influenza activity continues to decline across the Americas. RSV circulation has shown a sustained upward trend over the past eight epidemiological weeks (EWs), while SARS-CoV-2 remains low and stable overall. In North America, influenza activity continues to decline, driven by reductions in influenza A viruses. The Caribbean has reported an increase in influenza circulation over the past two weeks, with A(H1N1)pdm09 as the predominant subtype. RSV activity remains low and stable in both North America and the Caribbean. SARS-CoV-2 circulation has increased in North America in the past two weeks and remains elevated in the Caribbean, with a positivity rate of 9.0%. In Central America, influenza activity remains elevated but has shown a declining trend over the past two weeks, with a positivity rate of 18.7%, predominantly due to A(H1N1)pdm09. RSV activity remains stable, with a positivity rate of 3.8%, and SARS-CoV-2 circulation continues to be low. In the Andean subregion, both influenza A and RSV show a steady decline in positivity over the past four weeks, with rates of 12.2% and 8.7%, respectively. SARS-CoV-2 remains low and stable. In Brazil and the Southern Cone, influenza activity remains high but continues to decline, mainly due to decreasing A(H1N1)pdm09 circulation, with a positivity rate of 15.7%. RSV circulation has slightly increased compared to the previous EW, reaching a positivity rate of 4.1%, while SARS-CoV-2 activity remains low at interseasonal levels. Across all subregions, an increase in the circulation of other respiratory viruses (ORV) has been observed, with an overall positivity rate of 4.6%, primarily driven by rhinovirus activity, particularly in North America.
