Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 25 (27 June 2025)

Cover

Regional Situation: Influenza activity continues to decline across the Americas, although at a slower rate than earlier in the year. RSV circulation has shown a sustained upward trend over the past two epidemiological weeks (EWs), while SARS-CoV-2 remains low and stable overall. In North America, influenza activity reached interseasonal levels. In the Caribbean, the previously reported increase in influenza circulation has leveled off, with a decrease in positivity compared to the previous EW. A(H1N1)pdm09 remains as the predominant subtype. RSV activity remains low and stable in both North America and the Caribbean. SARS-CoV-2 activity has stabilized in North America at a 4.0% positivity rate after several weeks of sustained increase, but remains elevated and continues to rise in the Caribbean, where positivity reached 12.7%. In Central America, influenza activity remains elevated but continues showing a declining trend over the past two weeks, with a positivity rate of 22.9%. RSV activity remains stable and low, with a positivity rate of 1.8%, and SARS-CoV-2 circulation continues to be elevated at 7.9%. In the Andean subregion, influenza A has shown a steady decline in positivity over the past four weeks, with a positivity rate of 11.6%, while RSV activity has stabilized at a rate of 8.7%. SARS-CoV-2 remains low and stable. In Brazil and the Southern Cone, influenza activity remains high but continues to decline, mainly due to decreasing A(H1N1)pdm09 circulation, with a positivity rate of 13.1%. RSV circulation has slightly increased compared to the previous EW, reaching a positivity rate of 4.2%, while SARS-CoV-2 activity remains low at interseasonal levels. Across all subregions, an increase in the circulation of other respiratory viruses (ORV) has been observed, with an overall positivity rate of 7.5%, primarily driven by rhinovirus activity, particularly in North America, and Brazil and the Southern Cone.
