Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 26 (10 July 2026)

Regional Situation: During epidemiological week 26, influenza activity in the Region of the Americas remains stable. In North America, a downward trend is observed, with low levels of circulation. The Caribbean and Central America continue to show low activity, with positivity rates of 5.5% and 9.4%, respectively, while the Andean Region shows a slight increase, with a positivity rate of 7.5%. In contrast, Brazil and the Southern Cone are experiencing a sustained increase in activity, with a positivity rate of 16.3% in EW26. Regionally, influenza A remains the predominant virus, accounting for 57.1% of subtyped samples, with influenza A(H3N2) accounting for 20.6%. In North America and the Caribbean, influenza B is the predominant strain detected. The RSV shows an upward trend, primarily in Central America, Brazil, and the Southern Cone. Meanwhile, SARS-CoV-2 circulation remains stable and at low levels in most subregions, except for the Caribbean, where it reached a positivity rate of 10.6% for the most recent epidemiological week. Hospitalizations for acute respiratory infections (SARI) are trending downward, while outpatient visits for respiratory tract infections (ILI) are trending upward in the Caribbean, primarily related to the circulation of SARS-CoV-2.
