Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 29 (31 July 2026)

Regional Situation: In epidemiological week 29, influenza activity in the Region of the Americas continues to decline in most subregions. North America reports no influenza positivity, while SARS-CoV-2 shows a sustained increase, particularly in Mexico (22.6%). The Caribbean is registering an increasing trend in influenza, reaching 9.8% positivity, with declines in RSV (4.4%) and SARS-CoV-2 (6.9%). Central America and the Andean Region maintain low levels of influenza and SARS-CoV-2, while RSV shows an increase, reaching 19.9% and 10.7% respectively. In Brazil and the Southern Cone, influenza remains at moderate levels but with a decreasing trend (11.8%), with influenza B predominance, while RSV continues to rise, stabilising at moderate levels (13.8%). According to hospital-based surveillance, hospitalisations and ICU admissions for SARI show a decreasing trend in most countries (Brazil, Chile, Peru), with the exception of Paraguay and Uruguay, where an increase in cases is observed, associated with RSV predominance in children under 12 years of age.
