Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 31 (14 August 2026)

Cover

Regional Situation: Across the Region of the Americas, respiratory virus activity remains heterogeneous. Influenza activity is generally low, stable, or declining in most subregions, although elevated or epidemic-level activity persists in selected countries, including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Chile. RSV activity remains low in North America but is elevated or increasing in parts of Central America and the Southern Cone, particularly Panama, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, with high positivity also observed in Suriname. SARS-CoV-2 activity remains low or at interseasonal levels in several countries but has increased in parts of North America, the Caribbean, and Central America, with elevated positivity in Mexico, Suriname, Guyana, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Overall, ILI and SARI activity is stable or declining in several subregions, although continued monitoring is warranted given localized increases in RSV and SARS-CoV-2 circulation and persistent influenza activity in selected countries.
