Regional Situation: In the Region of the Americas, respiratory virus activity in EW 32 showed mixed trends by pathogen and subregion. RSV activity was high in the Southern Cone, particularly in Uruguay (47.7%) and Paraguay (25.7%), and continued rising in Central America, the Andean Region, and parts of the Caribbean, while showing a decreasing trend in Peru. Influenza positivity increased notably in the Caribbean, especially the Dominican Republic and Guyana, and in Colombia, while declining across Central America, the Southern Cone, Venezuela, and El Salvador. Influenza A predominated in most affected areas, though influenza B was dominant in Brazil and Guyana. SARS-CoV-2 positivity remained high in Mexico and increased across the Caribbean and parts of Central America, while showing a decreasing trend in Guatemala. Syndromic surveillance records show a decrease in ILI and SARI cases in North America, the Caribbean, Central America, and the Andean Region, while the Southern Cone saw an increase in ILI cases and, in several countries (Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay), a rise in SARI cases linked to higher RSV detection among sampled patients. |
