Sample collection for zoonotic influenza diagnosis (Influenza A/H5 and other zoonotic influenza viruses)
![]() |
To ensure an accurate diagnosis of respiratory viruses, collecting the specimen properly and maintaining its quality from collection through processing is essential. In this regard, the sampling protocol has been updated to include, in addition to nasopharyngeal swabs, the collection of conjunctival swabs in suspected zoonotic influenza cases presenting conjunctivitis symptoms. This measure aims to increase diagnostic sensitivity and support early virus detection in tissues that may be localized in specific clinical presentations. It is recommended that proper collection techniques be strictly followed and appropriate transport and storage media for each type of specimen be used. |
