On Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. (Brasilia, UTC-3), BIREME/PAHO/WHO will host the session “Artificial Intelligence applied to health information and knowledge: developments and perspectives,” the eighth webinar in the “BIREME 2026: New Releases and Updates” series.

Artificial intelligence is expanding the possibilities for organizing, retrieving, synthesizing, and accessing information, but its application to Information Science requires reliable sources, transparent methodologies, critical assessment, and human guidance. BIREME’s experience demonstrates how these technologies can be incorporated into health information products and services based on concrete problems and users’ needs.

The session will present recent BIREME developments that incorporate artificial intelligence, with examples of applications involving automated synthesis, indexing, natural language processing, search, and information retrieval. In addition to demonstrating these solutions, the webinar will promote reflection on the potential, limitations, and challenges of artificial intelligence for Information Science, including issues related to reliability, transparency, professional mediation, and the responsible use of these technologies.
