This is the second session of the new Cancer Prevention and Control Webinar Series, scheduled for 2026, organized by PAHO in partnership with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and UT MD Anderson Cancer Center.
In 2022, colorectal cancer was among the top five most commonly diagnosed cancers in the region, with rising incidence and mortality rates. The age-standardized incidence rate for colorectal cancer in Latin America and the Caribbean was estimated at 16.9 per 100,000, while the mortality rate stood at 8.2 per 100,000. Though incidence is significantly higher in North America (27.2 new cases per 100,000), mortality is comparable to Latin America and the Caribbean (8.2 deaths per 100,000). These figures reflect existing disparities in access to screening, early diagnosis, and treatment. The burden of colorectal cancer highlights the urgent need for expanded screening programs and equitable healthcare access across the region.

About the Cancer Prevention and Control Webinar Series
The collaboration between PAHO, ASCO, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center will bring together globally recognized clinical and research expertise to strengthen country capacities in screening, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of priority cancers, including prostate, colorectal, and lung cancer. These institutions will support the development of evidence‑based content, contribute expert presenters, and align topics with the latest scientific guidance.
