The digital transformation of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems offers an opportunity to improve the quality, timeliness, security, and availability of vital event information. However, moving from paper-based processes to electronic systems requires careful planning that addresses both the digitalization of current processes and the conversion and preservation of historical records.
During this session, Karim Pardo, a specialist in public management and digital transformation in health, will present good practices and experiences related to the digitalization of CRVS systems, from the electronic registration of births and deaths to the conversion of historical records.
The session will address practical aspects of transitioning from paper-based processes to electronic systems, including quality controls, information security, and operational continuity. It will also present examples of digital workflows for birth and death registration and their integration with other systems, highlighting the main challenges and opportunities countries encounter throughout this process.
This event is part of the thematic area on the digital transformation of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, which seeks to promote the active exchange of good practices and relevant information to strengthen CRVS systems throughout the Region.
General objective
To strengthen countries’ capacities to plan, implement, and consolidate the digital transformation of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems through the adoption of good practices in digital identity, the digitalization of processes and records, system governance, and interoperability, with a view to improving the quality, timeliness, and use of information for public administration and decision-making.
Specific objective of the session: To review good practices for digitalizing Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) processes and records, from the electronic registration of vital events to the conversion of historical records.
Speaker
Karim Pardo
Physician, public health specialist, and epidemiologist with expertise in public management and digital transformation in health. She is a former Vice Minister of Public Health of Peru and currently serves as Director of Registry Services at the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC). She has led key initiatives for the digitalization of vital records in Peru.
