Introduction
Within the framework of the Alliance for the Elimination of HIV in the Americas, advancing timely diagnosis is a strategic priority to accelerate the end of the epidemic as a public health threat. While the region has achieved important progress in treatment, combination prevention, and reductions in new infections in several countries, major gaps remain in early access to HIV testing, particularly among key populations, young people, men, and communities facing greater vulnerability.
A significant number of people are still diagnosed at advanced stages of infection, negatively affecting individual health outcomes, increasing preventable mortality, and limiting the ability to interrupt transmission. Expanding access to HIV testing is therefore not only a diagnostic intervention, but also an essential gateway to immediate treatment, combination prevention, including PrEP, PEP, and other innovative options , and a more efficient, people-centered response.
This regional webinar will bring together Ministries of Health, technical experts, civil society, communities, and strategic partners to share evidence, successful experiences, and programmatic innovations aimed at expanding access to HIV testing across Latin America and the Caribbean. Through exchange among countries and key stakeholders, the webinar seeks to promote concrete actions that strengthen health systems and accelerate progress toward regional elimination targets.
