Description

The purpose of this webinar is to present the Guidelines for surveillance of Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) in the Region of the Americas, developed to strengthen the technical capacities of national teams and ensure the sustained elimination of rubella and CRS in the countries of the Region. The session will address updated standards, case definitions, laboratory tests, surveillance indicators, and final case classification, as well as strategies for the timely detection of cases.

Objectives

  • Disseminate the updated Guidelines for Surveillance of CRS in the Americas.
  • Explain the technical procedures for reporting, investigating, and analyzing cases.
  • Strengthen regional harmonization in the implementation of CRS surveillance strategies.
  • Promote the quality and timeliness of data for evidence-based decision-making.

Rationale

The sustained elimination of rubella and CRS in the Region requires active and standardized surveillance. The update to the guidelines responds to:

  • Epidemiological changes and progress in elimination.
  • The need for uniform protocols for detection, investigation, and confirmation.
  • Improved data quality for analysis and response.
  • Compliance with international commitments within the framework of the Regional Initiative for the Elimination of Diseases 2030.

Audience

  • Coordinators and officials responsible for epidemiological surveillance at the Ministries of Health of the countries.
  • Technical teams from the immunization program in countries across the region.
  • Laboratory personnel involved in surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases.
  • Public health professionals and technicians are involved in disease surveillance and control.
