10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Washington DC Time)
Context
Despite significant progress in the Americas, major gaps remain in access to HIV early diagnosis, PrEP, timely treatment, and management of advanced HIV disease. These factors continue to hinder efforts to eliminate HIV. This virtual event aims to reinforce PAHO’s call to achieve zero HIV-related deaths by 2030.
During the event, the Alliance for HIV Elimination in the Americas will be officially launched. This initiative seeks to strengthen coordination among governments, communities, international agencies, and decision-makers, promoting comprehensive, evidence-based, and people-centered responses.
The event coincides with the release of UNAIDS’ annual report and calls for rethinking approaches, rebuilding partnerships, and scaling up collective action to ensure no one is left behind. All this in the context of a crisis in the HIV response, which demands renewed efforts in prevention, treatment, universal access to innovative technologies, and the elimination of discrimination and structural barriers affecting the most vulnerable populations.
