World Food Safety Day / Multiagency event planned for Latin America and the Caribbean region

For the fifth consecutive year, this 2025, international and regional organizations—FAO, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Organismo Internacional Regional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (OIRSA), and the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (CCLAC)—are joining forces to celebrate WFSD with an online seminar bringing together various stakeholders in the agrifood chain to share knowledge and experiences.

The proposed themes for 2025 emphasize the central role of science in managing food safety throughout the food chain. Topics include the contribution of new technologies to capacity building, the role of social sciences in strengthening food safety management, and the value of country-generated data in developing international guidelines.

Additionally, a roundtable with high-level political authorities and industry representatives will reflect on the importance of data and scientific evidence in food safety decision-making, how such evidence is generated, and how it has translated into concrete actions.
