Situation in the Region of the Americas
Measles has made a dramatic comeback across the Americas in 2025–2026, undermining years of elimination efforts. With 14,891 confirmed cases and 29 fatalities reported across 13 countries in 2025 alone, the region saw a staggering 32-fold surge compared to the previous year.
Given the high transmissibility of measles and persistent immunity gaps across the region, the overall public health risk for the Americas is assessed as "Very High." This assessment is informed by a combination of contributing factors.
