Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (update)
On 12 April 2021, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines reported that approximately at 4:15 AM, the dome of the Soufriere volcano collapsed generating pyroclastic density currents along the eastern and western coast. Explosions and accompanying ashfall, of similar or larger magnitude, are likely to continue to occur over the next few days. Additionally, according to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the explosive events from the Soufriere Volcano continue with significant venting of ash and ashfall has been reported in most areas of the island including Grenadines, Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Grenada. Currently, approximately 30 villages have been evacuated and between 16,000 and 20,000 persons are likely to be affected/displaced. A total of 85 shelters have been activated currently housing approximately 3,586 evacuees (not including evacuees sheltering with family/friends) however, 54% of shelters lack basic services such as water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH) and 54% of assessed shelters are only registering heads of households. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Simone Keizer informed that no cases of COVID-19 have been reported in any of the shelters. Furthermore, the coconut, grapefruit, mango, plantain, and banana crops in the North East of the island have sustained severe damage. On 12 April 2021, Civil Defense Colombia, reported heavy rains in the Meta Department causing severe flooding in the El Triunfo, Pinilla, Pozo 20, El Galán, Bajo Triunfo, Valle de Aragón, Esperanza 1, Villa Suiza, and 13 de Mayo neighbourhoods. Additionally, a total of 138 at-risk families have been relocated, 4 houses were reported destroyed, 2 partially destroyed, and 2 bridges report damages.
