Hurricane Elida
Mexico (Alert)
On 10 August 2020, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NOAA) reported that hurricane Elida is located about 380km south west of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, with sustained winds near 75mph (120 km/h). Swells generated by Elida are expected to affect portions of the coast of west-central Mexico and the southern Baja California peninsula during the upcoming days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. The report is available in English at: NOAA

Guatemala (Update)
On 9 August 2020, the Guatemala National Coordinator for the Reduction of Disasters (CONRED) provided an update regarding the impacts of the rainy season in Guatemala. Per the update, 1,028,602 people were affected (an increase of 91,032 since the last report on 27 July), 3.349 were injured (an increase of 39), and 7,350 were evacuated (an increase of 60). Additionally, a total of 1,536 homes were moderately damaged, 105 homes were severely damaged, and 146 highways were affected. The report is available in Spanish at: CONRED
Mexico
On 9 August 2020, the Secretary of Civil Protection of the State of Veracruz, Mexico, reported, heavy rain and an overflow of the Coyutla river affecting nearby communities. Media reported, three deaths in Veracruz State, as well as, 1,000 homes affected due to floods and landslides in the municipalities of Coyutla, Tierra Blanca, Tres Valles, Papantla, Los Reyes, Atlahuilco, Cosautlan, Nogales, Ixtaczoquitlán, and Atoyac.
