Severe Weather  

 

Brazil (Update) 

On 31 December, the Brazil Government of Bahia provided updated information of the impact of the heavy rains and flooding in Bahia State that occurred since 28 November. In total there are 661,208 people who were affected, 90,490 people were displaced, 517 people injured, and 25 people have died. There are 165 affected municipalities, 153 of which are under a state of emergency. The report is available at: Government of Bahia.  

 

Guatemala (Update)  

On 3 January, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED as per its acronym in Spanish) reported that due to low temperatures in several areas of Guatemala a total of 1,871 people have been housed in shelters since November 2021. There were 158 people housed in November, 1,523 people housed in December, and to date 190 people housed in January. There are currently 10 cold season shelters run by CONRED open across the country. Wildfire  

 

United States of America  

On 30 December, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) first reported the Marshal Fires around the communities of Superior and Louisville, Colorado. The fire has prompted mandatory evacuations for up to 108,000 residents and as of 3 January has burned 6,219 acres, destroyed 991 structures, and damaged 127 structures. In total there were 3 people declared missing; 1 of the 3 has since been found alive.
