Children washing their handsTo celebrate Global Handwashing Day, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) invites schoolchildren from all the countries of the Americas to establish a Guinness World Record for the number of students who wash their hands with soap and water at noon on 15 October 2009. The activity is being promoted by the Forum for Central America and the Dominican Republic on Drinking Water and Sanitation (FOCARD-PHC), the Pan American Health Organization, UNICEF, WORLD BANK/APS, COSUDE and the Water Millennium Alliance, with idea of surpassing the established record each successive year.   All public and private schools  in the Americas that wish to participate can register and obtain more information by visiting the Global Handwashing Day page.
