With the aim of achieving faster an more continuous deliveries, BIREME has adopted the Scrum framework as part of its strategy to strengthen project management and the development of its information products. This agile methodology promotes efficiency, transparency, and greater coordination between teams, which is an action planned in the PAHO Forward initiative (Outcome 2.09).

The implementation of Scrum puts the user at the center of the process and is based on focus, discipline, and teamwork to move toward an agile organization with greater operational efficiency.  This has improved coordination between teams, donors, and users, which has facilitated the mobilization of new projects and resources, in addition to contributing to the institutional strengthening of the Center.

For entities interested in adopting this framework, Silvia de Valentin, Administrator and Program Officer at BIREME, recommends starting with awareness-raising actions on agile culture, highlighting the benefits of value delivery (products or services that not only meet customer needs but also provide them with a positive experience), efficiency, and continuous feedback. Subsequently, it is key to support capacity building, thus promoting structured and professional implementation. Also, communication actions that highlight progress and results, recognize talent, and promote implementation.
