Montevideo, October 18, 2022. The Latin American Center of Perinatology - Women's and Reproductive Health (CLAP/WR), will participate in the FIGO Regional Congress to be held November 3-5 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

The objective of the congress is to bring together experts and specialists to discuss the latest scientific advances, best practices and clinical techniques for women's health care.

The director of CLAP/WR, Suzanne Serruya, expressed that it is "a duty for the center to participate" and noted that she and the CLAP/WR regional advisors will be part of various panels. "The congress agenda includes topics of utmost importance to advance maternal health, sexual and reproductive health, and newborn health. The COVID 19 pandemic has had a huge impact and has caused a major setback in all these areas in all countries of the region. It is essential that those who work in health teams and those who generate health policies, as well as all organizations that are involved with both health and women's rights share experiences and join efforts to reverse inequities and make substantive progress with a human rights perspective."

In addition, Serruya expressed that we are far from meeting the commitments made by countries in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "We have 8 years left until 2030. It is urgent to accelerate the processes."

Finally, he pointed out that, although CLAP/WR is in permanent dialogue with the institutional referents of the countries, "it is always good to exchange with experts on the vision about the different realities in the region."
