Tropical Storm Agatha Brings Heavy Flooding to Central America

AgathaAgatha, a powerful Pacific tropical storm, hit Central America on May 29 and dissipated the next day, not before dropping heavy rains that resulted in landslides and flash flooding in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. The latest reports confirm 175 deaths but this figure will be revised as more information becomes available. All three governments have declared state of emergency prompting activation of their national emergency response mechanisms. PAHO has been working closely with the health sector in response coordination and resource mobilization.
