18 November 2025, Nassau, The Bahamas - The PAHO/WHO Bahamas (BHS) & Turks and Caicos Islands (TCA) Office together with the support of the Department of Social and Environmental Determinants for Health Equity (DHE) conducted an air quality assessment and training in TCA from October 21st to 26th 2025. As part of PAHOs effort to conduct outreach and build capacity towards improving indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in countries in the region, the mission to TCA successfully achieved its objectives through on-site evaluations of indoor air quality in healthcare facilities and other government buildings and provided technical guidance to local authorities.

On-the-job training (OJT) was conducted that focused on the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed for the Environmental Health specialists to perform an indoor air quality assessment in the buildings. With ongoing support from PAHO/WHO and through the implementation of the proposed actions, the Ministry of Health and Human Services could work towards establishing a sustainable framework for IEQ management and environmental health surveillance across public facilities.
