SIP PLUS, the tool that provides instant perinatal information for timely and "tailored" decision making in Latin America and the Caribbean

Montevideo. October 21, 2022. On October 21, was held the webinar: SIP PLUS, the tool that provides instant perinatal information for timely and "tailored" decision making in Latin America and the Caribbean. SIP Plus is the web version of the Perinatal Information System (SIP) and is a tool to improve maternal, perinatal and sexual and reproductive health through the timely use of information collected during the care process and available in real time. 

The welcoming remarks were made by the Director of the Department of Family, Health Promotion and Life Course of the Pan American Health Organization (FPL/PAHO/WHO), Andrés de Francisco, and the Director of the Latin American Center of Perinatology - Women's and Reproductive Health (CLAP/SMR - PAHO/WHO), Suzanne Serruya. The authorities referred to the objectives of the seminar and highlighted the importance of the countries sharing their experience with the SIP Plus.

The seminar was led by SIP Coordinator, Giselle Tomasso. Luis Mainero, CLAP/SMR IT specialist, was in charge of presenting the tool and its potential. This was followed by a presentation by Andrés Bolzán, from the Directorate of Perinatal and Child Health of the Argentine Ministry of Health, who spoke about Argentina's experience and the significant progress made in the implementation of the SIP plus at the national level; Zada Mohammed, from the Women's Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health of Trinidad and Tobago, who presented that country's experience with the use of SIP Plus and its capacity to interoperate with national information systems; and Fernanda Blasina, from the Neonatology Clinic of the Hospital de Clínicas, Uruguay, who focused on the capacity of SIP Plus to validate predictive models.

After the country presentations, it was the turn of the CLAP/SMR advisors. The regional advisor on Maternal Health, Bremen De Mucio, referred to the automatic near miss inequity reports; the regional advisor on Neonatal Health, Pablo Durán, made a presentation on perinatal outcome indicators, essential interventions and quality of neonatal health care; and Rodolfo Gómez, regional advisor on Sexual and Reproductive Health, referred to the SIP Contraception and SIP Violence forms and their respective reports.
